Its geographic location places it within the Western North Pacific, the world’s most active tropical-cyclone basin, where communities repeatedly face powerful typhoons, flooding, storm surges, landslides, and the destruction of homes and livelihoods. For the Philippines, climate change is not a distant prediction. It is a recurring human reality.
The minerals beneath Philippine soil should therefore do more than leave the country as raw material. When responsibly processed, minerals such as nickel, cobalt, copper, manganese, aluminum, and scandium can help enable renewable-energy systems, battery storage, resilient power grids, advanced electronics, lower-emission transportation, and climate-adaptive infrastructure.
The founder envisions the Philippines becoming more than a country repeatedly harmed by the world’s changing climate. It can become a meaningful contributor to the technologies and material supply chains needed to fight it.

How qualified mineral products can enable electrification, clean-energy systems and climate resilience worldwide?
A Global Mission Shaped on the Climate Front Line
Climate change is global, but its consequences are not experienced equally. EcoMetals’ founders developed their vision in the Philippines, within the Western North Pacific, the world’s most active tropical-cyclone basin. Repeated exposure to destructive storms made the need for climate action immediate and deeply human.

Every stage must be tested and independently assessed. The presence of minerals does not establish their recoverability, and their use in climate technologies does not by itself establish a net environmental benefit.
The IEA identifies nickel, cobalt, and manganese as important to battery performance, while copper and aluminum are central to electricity networks. It also emphasizes that the emissions, water use, waste, and social impacts of mineral production must be properly managed.

Qualified mineral products can potentially contribute in two ways:
Climate mitigation through downstream technologies such as energy storage, electric transportation, renewable-energy systems and modern electricity networks. Climate resilience through stronger grids, distributed storage, emergency communications and infrastructure capable of recovering more effectively from extreme-weather events. These contributions depend on the complete value chain. Net climate value must ultimately be established through lifecycle assessment, including energy source, transportation, recovery efficiency, water consumption, reagents, residues and downstream manufacturing.
Technology and Validation Status
EcoMetals is developing a novel integrated processing platform designed to target multiple valuable constituents in laterite and polymetallic materials rather than concentrating exclusively on a single commodity. Company-held geological reports and assay results support continued evaluation. They do not, by themselves, establish a mineral resource or reserve, commercially achievable recovery, product purity, environmental performance, economic viability or scalability. Determining which constituents can be recovered, and at what yield, quality, environmental profile and cost, is the purpose of the proposed validation program.

Process mass balances, recovery rates and product purity
Feedstock variability and impurity management
Energy, water, reagent, emissions and residue performance
Product qualification and potential market pathways
Preliminary techno-economic and lifecycle assessments
Independent technical and environmental review
This work would convert geological and laboratory evidence into decision-grade information for technical partners, development institutions, and potential investors.
